I've given a 4 rating as I haven't actually used it yet but I generally find that Miracle-Gro products perform well. I'm hoping it's better than some other peat free ones I've been using as they have dried out terribly. Was at a good price when I bought it early Feb 2026. Has increased since though.

The Miracle-Gro 40L Peat Free Premium All Purpose Compost being peat free would be suitable for growing watermelon seeds however please bear in mind that a sandy loam soil is one of the best choices for growing watermelons.

The miacle gro compost is meant to help faster growth for plants and seeds so this would be fine to use with grass seed, although the ground underneath may need raking so that the seed is not blown away.

After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Miracle-Gro 40L Peat Free Premium All Purpose Compost: ''They could use Miracle-Gro 40L Peat Free Premium All-Purpose Compost 272/7099 as a lawn dressing but we would suggest they sieve it first as it will contain larger materials and is courser than lawn dressing (which is much finer).
If they are looking to overseed and thicken their lawn we would recommend they use Thick r lawn which is a grass seed and fertiliser in one. There are also several articles on the Lovethegarden with advice on lawn care.''
