Celebrating Argos' 50th birthday

UK's leading toy retailer since 1973
We've been championing the power of play since we first opened our doors fifty years ago on 21 July 1973.

Inspiring creativity, one toy at a time
We have since gone on to make hundreds of millions of children's dreams come true by gifting toys and games for birthdays, Christmas and all those occasions in between.
As experts in play, with 50 years of experience in toy trends, we're celebrating our 50th birthday by exploring the inspirational nature of toys, and the impact that play has had on all of our lives.
Demi Stokes' homecoming to empower tomorrow's sports stars
Demi Stokes is partnering with Argos, on its 50th birthday to help inspire the adults of tomorrow.
Returning to her hometown of Sunderland, Demi surprised the pupils of Dame Dorothy Primary School, and her old PE teacher Iain Williamson, with some tournament-winning football techniques and gifted them with brand new sports equipment. Click here to find out more.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to gift this equipment to Dame Dorothy Primary School for Argos’ 50th birthday! It means so much to me and I hope I can help inspire the next generation to continue their sporting journey or try out new sports and hobbies. It was brilliant to catch up with my old teacher Iain who really believed in me from the start and gave me an opportunity at such a young age, ultimately starting my passion for football.”
How play influenced Harry Judd's love for music
Argos has teamed up with McFly drummer Harry Judd, who attributes playing with musical toys for inspiring his love of music and his career since 2003. Harry Judd said: “I distinctly remember some of the first toys I was given as a child being musical toys and I absolutely loved them. Simple instruments like tambourines and shakers, they made this amazing sound and definitely sparked my love of music - as I grew up the toys just got bigger."

“Obviously as you get older, play takes a back seat - but I remember spending hours and hours playing games with my siblings and friends, back in the 1990s when we were young! It’s great that having my own children has brought back that sense of play and imagination - I’m pretty active, so like playing cricket and catch in the garden and my eldest son is massively into drums and guitars, so it’s lovely to be able to connect with them, whilst watching them learn and grow.”
